THE ANSWERS

TO THE MOST FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS WE RECEIVE ABOUT APOGEE

How do you handle discipline?

We approach discipline as a team with parents focusing on positive reinforcement, accountability, clear expectations, and open communication. We encourage self-governance and conflict resolution skills, while maintaining consistency and fairness in our approach to behavior management.

Do you require a Values Statement?

We honor and support families of all faiths and beliefs. While we are not a religious or faith-based school, we value time for personal reflection and encourage learners to develop their own sense of purpose and character.

Each day often begins with a quiet moment for reflection. Learners may use this time for prayer, mindfulness, gratitude, or simply to set their intentions for the day.

Our focus is on helping young people grow into individuals of strong character and integrity. While we may occasionally explore religious texts in the context of academic subjects like history or literature, we do not teach religious doctrine or promote any particular belief system. We aim to foster a respectful environment where all learners feel free to express their values and engage in meaningful discussions.

Do you go on field trips?

Yes, we do organize field trips to enhance learning and provide real-world experiences. Field trips are carefully selected to align with curriculum goals and offer students the chance to explore outside the classroom.

Do you offer mid-year enrollment?

Yes, we do offer mid-year enrollment depending on availability. We understand that families may need flexibility, and we will work with you to integrate your child into our community smoothly.

How much outside time does the student get?

We believe in the importance of outdoor activity for student well-being. Our schedule includes ample outdoor time, whether it’s during recess, outdoor classrooms, or nature walks, ensuring students remain active and engaged in a balanced way.

What are your on-campus activities?

We offer a variety of on-campus activities, including hands-on projects, gardening, physical activity, and other enrichment activities that align with our curriculum. These activities help foster creativity, critical thinking, and collaboration.

What transportation is offered?

At this time, we do not offer regular transportation. Families are responsible for transporting students to and from school, but we work to make pick-up and drop-off as convenient as possible for all families. Transportation is coordinated with parents and staff for campus field trips.

Do you provide lunches?

Occasionally, special lunch events or community meals may be offered. We do have a partnership with FitFresh and you can order meals that will be dropped off at our location for the week.

What is education for the whole family?

At Apogee Gahanna, we believe that learning is a journey that involves the entire family. Our approach includes opportunities for parent engagement, family-focused events, and mentorship programs to build a supportive, collaborative educational community. Through our Apogee Man and Apogee Woman programs, we offer guidance for parents and older students, while the Apogee Young Man and Apogee Young Woman mentorship programs, designed for ages 12 and up, foster leadership, personal growth, and responsibility in our young learners. Together, we create a holistic, nurturing environment for all members of the family.

WILL MY CHILD HAVE ACCESS TO WORK ABOVE THEIR GRADE LEVEL IF THEY ARE READY FOR IT?

Absolutely! At Apogee Gahanna, we empower students to advance at their own pace, ensuring they’re continually challenged and inspired. If your child masters a concept quickly, they won’t have to wait—they can seamlessly move on to more advanced material. Our coaches provide the support and encouragement needed to keep students engaged, motivated, and excited about learning every step of the way.

WHAT IS PROJECT-BASED LEARNING?

Project-Based Learning (PBL) is a dynamic, hands-on approach to education where students actively explore real-world challenges and develop practical solutions. Instead of passively absorbing information, students engage in meaningful projects that encourage critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and problem-solving.

At Apogee Gahanna, PBL allows students to take ownership of their learning by working on projects that integrate multiple subjects and skills. Whether designing experiments, creating presentations, or building models, students develop a deeper understanding of concepts while gaining valuable life skills. This approach makes learning more engaging, relevant, and impactful, preparing students for success beyond the classroom.

HOW DO YOU MEASURE STUDENT PROGRESS WITHOUT TRADITIONAL GRADES?

True learning is about mastery, not memorization or letter grades. Instead of traditional grading systems, we use a variety of tools to assess student progress in a meaningful way.

How we measure growth:

- Mastery-Based Learning – Students advance once they demonstrate a deep understanding of concepts, rather than moving forward based on time spent in a subject.

- Portfolios & Project Showcases – Students compile work samples, presentations, and projects to reflect their learning journey and growth over time.

- Guided Reflections & Self-Assessments – Students set personal goals, track their progress, and develop self-awareness about their strengths and areas for improvement.

- One-on-One Feedback & Mentorship – Coaches provide regular, personalized feedback to help students refine their skills and knowledge.

- Skill Development Tracking – We assess students’ progress in key areas such as critical thinking, problem-solving, collaboration, and communication.

By focusing on real learning, self-motivation, and skill development, we ensure students gain the knowledge and confidence to succeed beyond the classroom.
